Parental Math.

The grade 4 math is a little different than in the good old days. Instead of one concept there will be many different strategies and a lot of problem solving. Often we will spend a few days on one of the many different concepts. Please ask your students what they did in math today. Have them show or explain what is going on even if they do not have homework. At the moment have them teach you the ancient secret of math. They will know what it is and should be able to show you. These questions will prove to be very helpful in your child's retention. If they can teach it they will remember it.
A well please go over their homework with them. The questions will be mostly problem solving. They should solve all the parts of the problem. Too often the kids get the question correct but don't finish answering. In a problem they should answer with a sentence. If the students are not quite solving all the steps of the problem ask them to read it again and see if they answered all the questions. It will help if they get in the habit of having to look for, solve and explain their thinking in all parts of the problem.
Last but not least please help them to space out their work and write it as neatly as possible. This would help a lot thanks..
